Police Seek Witnesses After Pukehina Double Deaths on New Year’s Day
Police are requesting anyone who was present at a property on Old Coach Rd in Pukehina, Bay of Plenty, to come forward as investigations continue into the deaths of a man and a woman. Authorities were alerted to the situation on January 1, 2023, and ongoing examinations of the rural site are being conducted.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Wilson, the area investigations manager for Eastern Bay of Plenty Police, reported that officers received notification around 15:00 (3:00 PM) on Thursday regarding the woman’s death. Further developments occurred early Friday morning, when police were informed at approximately 02:10 (2:10 AM) about the man’s death, which took place in a separate house on the same property.
As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement is treating the man’s death as unexplained. Police are keen to establish a timeline and gather any relevant information from individuals who may have been in the vicinity prior to the fatalities. Those with information are encouraged to reach out to local authorities as they work to clarify the circumstances surrounding these tragic events.
The police department emphasizes the importance of community cooperation in such cases, as even small details could prove significant. Witnesses can contact the Eastern Bay of Plenty Police directly or provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers.
Authorities continue to focus on the investigation, hoping to provide clarity and closure for the families involved.
