Rotorua Christmas Appeal Raises Nearly $93,000 for Community Support
The 2025 Rotorua Christmas Appeal has successfully raised nearly $93,000 for the local Salvation Army foodbank, significantly impacting the community’s ability to provide essential support during the festive season. This initiative has already assisted over 500 individuals in the Rotorua area, helping families access food and gifts during a time when many are in need.
Community ministries manager for the Rotorua Salvation Army, Darnielle Hoods, shared a poignant story that illustrates the appeal’s importance. A local grandmother, who is raising her three mokopuna (grandchildren) on a pension, expressed her gratitude as volunteers delivered groceries and wrapped presents to her home. Hoods noted that this experience highlighted the significance of their work, stating it resonated deeply with the spirit of giving and community support.
The appeal, organized in collaboration with the Rotorua Daily Post, has become a vital resource in the area. Hoods emphasized that many families face challenging circumstances, and the contributions received through the appeal help alleviate some of the pressures they encounter, particularly during the holiday season.
As the team at the Rotorua Salvation Army continues to distribute food and gifts, the impact of the appeal extends beyond just material assistance. It fosters a sense of community and support that is crucial for those facing hardships. “This grandmother had already made peace with the idea that her Christmas would look different,” Hoods remarked, underscoring the resilience many families demonstrate despite their struggles.
The generous donations have come from various sources, reflecting the community’s commitment to supporting one another. The funds raised will not only provide immediate relief but also help sustain the foodbank’s efforts in the longer term, ensuring that those in need can receive ongoing support throughout the year.
The success of the 2025 Rotorua Christmas Appeal exemplifies the power of community engagement and the importance of collective action in addressing local challenges. As the holiday season approaches, initiatives like this remind us of the profound impact that kindness and generosity can have on the lives of many.
