Woman Dies Following Medical Emergency on Qantas Flight
A woman in her 60s tragically died after experiencing a medical emergency on a Qantas flight from Auckland to Perth. The incident occurred on October 5, 2023, prompting the flight, known as QF112, to be diverted to Sydney International Airport. Emergency services were alerted shortly after 12:00 PM NZT.
According to the New South Wales Police, despite the immediate response from medical personnel, the woman could not be revived. The distressing event unfolded during the flight, leading the crew to make the decision to divert to Sydney to provide urgent medical care.
A spokesperson for Qantas confirmed the diversion, stating that the airline is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its passengers. The airline extended condolences to the family of the deceased, acknowledging the tragic circumstances surrounding the incident.
The passenger’s identity has not been disclosed, and investigations into the circumstances of her medical episode are ongoing. Flights to and from Perth continued to operate as scheduled following the emergency landing.
