Young Builder Suffers Vision Loss After Stroke from Tumour
A young builder’s life has dramatically changed after experiencing a severe headache that led to a life-threatening medical condition. Joel King, a 28-year-old from Australia, was diagnosed with a colloid cyst, a benign tumour located in his brain. This condition resulted in a stroke, leaving him with significant vision impairment.
Impact of Cortical Blindness
As a result of the stroke, Joel now suffers from cortical blindness, which restricts his vision to only 10-15% of what he previously experienced. Once an avid builder and passionate hunter, he now faces challenges with even the simplest daily activities. Driving, a routine part of his life, has become impossible.
Joel expressed the severity of his condition, stating, “My head feels like it’s in a vice.” This profound statement highlights the physical and emotional toll of his illness. The loss of his vision has not only altered his ability to work but has also taken away the hobbies he cherished.
Medical Journey and Support
Following the diagnosis, Joel underwent medical treatment for the colloid cyst. While these tumours are typically benign, their location can lead to serious complications, including strokes. The challenges he faces now require significant adjustments, both personally and professionally.
Family and friends have rallied around Joel during this difficult time, providing emotional and practical support. The community has shown concern and compassion, recognising the impact of his sudden health crisis.
As he navigates this new reality, Joel remains hopeful for recovery and adaptation. His story is a poignant reminder of how quickly life can change and the resilience required to face such profound challenges.
