Artbay Exhibition Launches with New Works from Celebrated Artists
A new exhibition featuring fresh works from established artists will launch at Artbay and its sister galleries in New Zealand on January 10 and 11, 2024. The event showcases a diverse array of artistic expressions, promising a vibrant celebration of creativity that will run until January 21, 2024.
Gallery Expansion and Vision
Founder and director Pauline Bianchi has successfully expanded her presence in the art world, operating three galleries along the lakefront in the central business district. Artbay, housed in a historic masonic lodge, is complemented by the Virut Flagship Gallery, located in the Eichardt’s building. This gallery features the intricate “hyper-real” portraits by Thai artist Virut Panchabuse, crafted from thousands of tiny magazine clippings. Additionally, the Lightworx Gallery, situated upstairs, highlights fine art that incorporates light.
Bianchi’s journey began in 2004 after a vivid dream inspired her to create Artbay. Rising at 03:30 one winter morning, she envisioned the gallery’s name, concept, and logo. Without pen or paper, she used her red lipstick and black eyeliner to sketch the original logo on a receipt, a design that remains in use today.
Commitment to Artists and Community
Since its inception, Bianchi has dedicated herself to fostering a strong connection with artists and collectors, representing around 50 artists from New Zealand and abroad, including Europe. She emphasizes that each artist is selected for their unique voice and storytelling ability, with original mediums playing a key role in their work.
Bianchi has navigated challenges such as fluctuating markets, complex logistics, and the impacts of global recession and COVID-19. In response, she has enhanced her online presence and expanded her art consultancy. Often collaborating with designers, Bianchi assists clients in selecting art for large homes, ensuring that the pieces complement the specified wall spaces.
Clients are increasingly interested in a variety of mediums beyond traditional oil paintings, prompting Bianchi to diversify her offerings. As she prepares for the upcoming exhibition, she promises a “dynamic mix of painting, sculpture, collage, and mixed media” that reflects the ongoing evolution and creativity of Artbay’s renowned artists.
Additionally, Bianchi will feature artworks recently brought back from Mexico, further enriching the exhibition’s offerings. The launch events on January 10 and 11 will take place from 11:00 to 17:00, inviting art enthusiasts to experience the latest creations from talented artists.
This exhibition marks not only a celebration of artistic talent but also a testament to Bianchi’s unwavering passion for art and her commitment to nurturing creativity within the community.
