Alice Robinson Dominates Giant Slalom at World Cup in Colorado
New Zealand skier Alice Robinson has made a significant impact in her season by winning the women’s giant slalom at the Alpine Ski World Cup held at Copper Mountain, Colorado. With a commanding performance, Robinson finished the two-run event with an overall time of 1 minute 58.91 seconds, nearly one second ahead of her closest competitor.
The 23-year-old from Queenstown was the fastest among 56 competitors during the first run, clocking in at 59.03 seconds. This time was 0.29 seconds quicker than Sweden’s Sara Hector and 0.60 seconds faster than Austria’s Julia Scheib, who ultimately finished as the runner-up. In the second run, Robinson’s equal-fastest performance ensured her victory, consolidating her position as a leading contender for the upcoming Winter Olympics in February 2026.
Robinson’s journey through the course was marked by contrasting experiences in both runs. She described her first run as one where she felt “in control and so smooth.” In contrast, the second run presented challenges, as she noted, “the second felt out of control, like I was recovering the whole time.” Despite her initial lack of confidence going into the race, Robinson expressed pride in following her instincts to secure the win.
This victory elevates Robinson to second place in the overall World Cup standings, trailing only behind runner-up Scheib. Norway’s Thea Louise Stjernesund secured third place, demonstrating the competitive landscape of the event. The next round of the World Cup will take place in Tremblant, Canada, next weekend, as skiers continue to vie for points and positions ahead of the Winter Olympics.
Robinson’s performance not only showcases her talent but also highlights her potential on the international stage as she prepares for future competitions.
