In a thrilling display of speed and stamina, Silawi claimed a decisive victory in the Gr.3 Weatherbys Global Stallions App Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor on Saturday. The race, which spanned a distance of 2000 meters and featured a field of five competitors, showcased the five-year-old gelding’s prowess on the track.

Trained by Hamad Al Jehani and ridden by Cieren Fallon, Silawi raced under the banner of Wathnan Racing. Having previously demonstrated his ability at Windsor with a win in the Thorn Plant Hire Ltd Handicap in May, he entered this event with the intention of proving himself at a higher level.

Strong Start and Commanding Lead

Silawi quickly established himself as the frontrunner, taking the lead from the outset. Devil’s Advocate closely trailed him, while the highly regarded Military Order settled in behind, creating an intriguing dynamic as the race unfolded. As they approached the final bend, Silawi maintained a comfortable stride, effortlessly shaking off his competitors.

As the pace intensified, Military Order began to close the distance, appearing to be the only real threat to Silawi’s lead. Yet, the leader showcased remarkable resilience, consistently finding extra gear to fend off his pursuer. The two horses battled in the final stretch, but Silawi’s control remained evident, allowing him to secure victory by a margin of three-quarters of a length.

Military Order finished in second place, while Royal Playwright surged from behind to clinch third. Silawi’s performance solidified his status as a formidable contender in the racing world, having stepped up to Group competition with authority.

A Promising Pedigree

Silawi is bred by Wertheimer et Frere and is out of Silasol, a dual Gr.1 winner known for her versatility over various distances. His lineage includes notable relatives, such as Fasol (by Galileo), a consistent performer at Gr.3 level, and Silius (by Dubawi), a Listed winner and multiple Gr.3 placed horse.

The gelding’s impressive victory at the Winter Hill Stakes not only highlights his talent but also underscores the significance of his breeding, suggesting a bright future ahead as he continues to compete at higher levels.
