Notable guests included acclaimed authors such as Tāme Iti, Catherine Chidgey, Dominic Hoey, Apirana Taylor, and Peta Mathias. These creatives, alongside local talents, contributed to discussions and performances that highlighted the literary community’s dynamism and resilience. The festival’s theme centered on the deep-rooted literary heritage of Dunedin, celebrating the writers and poets who continuously enrich the cultural narrative.
Festival Highlights and Podcast Availability
Among the festival’s highlights was the event titled Ahi Kā — The Long Burning Fire. This gathering featured a pōwhiri and a panel session chaired by Kiringāua Cassidy and Nadia Wesley-Smith. Writers and guests came together at Ōtākou Marae to share stories, fostering connections and illuminating the significance of storytelling in the community.
For those unable to attend, six of the festival’s events were recorded in full for future broadcast and podcasting. Audiences can tune in to hear these rich discussions via 105.4FM and 1575AM.
