Roma Riaz Challenges Beauty Standards Ahead of Miss Universe 2025
Miss Universe Pakistan 2025, Roma Riaz, has boldly addressed the colourist and body-shaming criticism she has faced online, making her stance clear in a recent Instagram video. Following a wave of attacks on her skin tone and body shape, Riaz refused to remain silent, sharing her thoughts on the pervasive nature of colourism in South Asian cultures.
In her video message, Riaz highlighted the damaging effects of such remarks on young women. “I will not apologise for looking like my people,” she declared, reinforcing that beauty cannot be confined to societal norms of fairness. She emphasized that her skin tone is a reflection of the women “who built our homes, our families, and carried our nation in their hearts.”
Redefining Beauty Standards
Riaz positioned herself not merely as a pageant contestant, but as a representative of a generation that is increasingly rejecting restrictive beauty standards. She called upon critics to reconsider their comments, urging them to think about Pakistan’s global image. “If you don’t have anything nice to say, for the sake of Pakistan’s reputation, don’t say anything,” she warned.
Addressing young girls across South Asia, Riaz asserted that beauty should not be defined by narrow expectations. She encouraged any girl labeled as “too dark, too different, or too bold” to embrace her uniqueness and be celebrated.
In her social media caption, Riaz acknowledged the challenges she anticipated as one of the first dark-skinned women to represent Pakistan on an international stage. “Every step I take clears a path for the next generation,” she affirmed, displaying her commitment to fostering change.
A Message of Unity
Riaz expressed gratitude towards her supporters from Pakistan, India, Latin America, and beyond, reinforcing the idea that “beauty, kindness, and unity go far beyond borders.” As the highly anticipated Miss Universe 2025 pageant approaches, slated for November 21, 2025, in Thailand, Riaz stands empowered and resilient, ready to redefine the narrative surrounding beauty for South Asian women.
In a world where beauty ideals are often dictated by restrictive standards, Roma Riaz’s message resonates as a call for inclusivity and acceptance. Her journey is not only about competing for a title but also about advocating for a broader definition of beauty that celebrates diversity and authenticity.
