In an exciting day of action at the QSL Cup, Al Markhiya and Al Waab secured significant victories, enhancing their positions in the tournament standings. Al Markhiya defeated Lusail 2-1, while Al Waab triumphed 2-0 over Al Bidda.
Al Markhiya Edges Lusail with Gabriel’s Brilliance
At the Thani Bin Jassim Stadium in Doha on March 15, 2024, Lucas Gabriel emerged as the star for Al Markhiya, scoring both goals in their match against Lusail. The contest began as a tightly contested affair, with both teams showcasing their skills.
Al Markhiya took the lead in the 37th minute, courtesy of Gabriel’s first goal. The momentum shifted early in the second half when Amir Rustay equalised for Lusail in the 55th minute, putting Al Markhiya on the back foot momentarily.
Determined to reclaim their advantage, Al Markhiya intensified their efforts. Gabriel responded with a crucial goal in the 73rd minute, sealing a 2-1 victory for his team. This win marked Al Markhiya’s third victory of the tournament, elevating their points total to 10, while Lusail remained stagnant with 4 points.
Al Waab Maintains Unbeaten Streak Against Al Bidda
Meanwhile, at Al Shamal Stadium, Al Waab continued their impressive form, remaining unbeaten in the QSL Cup with a 2-0 victory over Al Bidda. Both goals came in the second half, with Bahaa Faisal scoring in the 55th minute and Ossenio Cesar following up just 12 minutes later in the 67th minute.
The match took a turn when Javier Martines of Al Bidda received a second yellow card in the 65th minute, reducing his team to ten men. Al Waab capitalised on their advantage, securing their third win of the tournament and raising their points tally to 12. Al Bidda, facing their second defeat, remained at 8 points.
As the tournament progresses, both Al Markhiya and Al Waab are positioning themselves as formidable contenders, demonstrating skill and determination on the pitch.
