PSG Prepares for Intercontinental Cup Final Against Flamengo
Doha, Qatar: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has initiated preparations for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final, set for March 15, 2025, against Brazil’s CR Flamengo at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium. The French champions held their first training session in Doha yesterday, just hours after arriving from Paris.
Under the guidance of head coach Luis Enrique, the team focused on enhancing sharpness and recovery during this crucial phase of their build-up. PSG aims to secure another prestigious trophy, adding to their impressive list of accolades.
Entering the final with a refreshed mindset, PSG has managed player workloads carefully in recent days, ensuring peak fitness levels ahead of the decisive match. The reigning European champions earned their direct spot in this final due to their triumph in the UEFA Champions League.
Flamengo’s Path to the Final
In contrast, Flamengo has faced significant challenges on their road to Doha. The Brazilian side clinched victory in the FIFA Derby of the Americas with a 2-1 win over Cruz Azul, followed by a solid performance against Egypt’s Pyramids FC, winning 2-0 in the FIFA Challenger Cup. These matches have equipped them with the experience essential for the final.
Enrique has emphasized the importance of the Intercontinental Cup, regarding it as a major objective for his squad this season. To ensure key players are in optimal condition, several regular starters were rested during PSG’s narrow 3-2 win over Metz in Ligue 1 last Saturday.
Squad Updates and Key Players
PSG has traveled with a robust squad, including notable players such as Nuno Mendes, Desire Doue, Joao Neves, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The team also welcomes back Ousmane Dembele, the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner, who returns after a brief illness. The only significant absentee is Achraf Hakimi, who is sidelined due to an ankle injury.
As PSG prepares for this highly anticipated contest against an in-form Flamengo side, the atmosphere in Doha is charged with excitement. Both teams are poised for a fierce battle, each aiming to claim the coveted Intercontinental Cup title.
