Craig Greenfield Inspires Change for Vulnerable Youth Globally
Craig Greenfield, a former pupil of Macleans College and resident of Bucklands Beach, is making significant strides in supporting disadvantaged communities worldwide. His journey began in 2000 when he and his wife relocated to Cambodia to assist those affected by the Khmer Rouge regime. Their mission focused on helping individuals rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the dictatorship’s devastation.
In 2006, the couple moved to Vancouver, Canada, where they concentrated on recruiting and training individuals eager to support humanitarian efforts in Asia. Their commitment to this cause ultimately led them back to Phnom Penh in 2013, where they established a program known as Alongsiders. This initiative aims to connect Cambodian teenagers with younger, at-risk children, providing mentorship and guidance to help them stay in school and navigate the challenges of growing up without stable adult support.
Alongsiders has since evolved into a global movement, impacting the lives of approximately 80,000 children and youth across 32 countries spanning Asia, Africa, and Europe. The program’s success illustrates the power of community and mentorship in fostering resilience among vulnerable populations.
Greenfield will return to east Auckland to share his experiences and insights during a talk at Howick Community Church at 10 a.m. on December 21, 2023. This event offers an opportunity for attendees to learn about the transformative work being done through Alongsiders. A second, smaller gathering is scheduled for the following day, and interested individuals can reach out to Kathryn Parker at 0273 007 443 for more information.
In addition to these talks, a fundraising event for Alongsiders International is being organized in Auckland, with further details available online at https://crave-cafe.raiselysite.com/. This initiative aims to garner support for the ongoing efforts to empower youth and provide them with the tools necessary for a brighter future.
Greenfield’s work exemplifies a dedicated commitment to service and mentorship, proving that with the right guidance, even the most vulnerable children can find pathways to success.
