Local Business Contributes Sixth Ambulance to St John
A significant contribution to emergency services has been made by the Hog and Hounds Sports Bar, which recently facilitated the donation of its sixth ambulance to St John in Putaruru. This initiative underscores the vital role local businesses play in enhancing community health and safety.
Under the leadership of owner Mandeep Singh, who was elected to the Tirau Local Board this year, the establishment exemplifies how local enterprises can uplift their communities. Singh’s commitment to community wellbeing extends beyond his bar, reflected in his ongoing support for initiatives aimed at improving safety and resilience.
The latest ambulance donation comes from the We Care Community Trust, which has been active since its founding in October 2021. Singh referred to the new vehicle as an “equalising gift,” emphasizing that it is driven by community needs. “I personally feel this is a community need,” he stated. “St John works incredibly hard, and they need new ambulances to do their work and provide vital services to the community.”
The chairman of the We Care Community Trust, Raghbir Singh, confirmed that each ambulance is valued at approximately $331,000. Previous donations have benefitted various locations, including Te Puke, Hāwera, Thames, Kaipara, and Katikati, establishing a notable legacy of lifesaving contributions.
The newly delivered Gen 4 ambulance is equipped with advanced technology, featuring power-load electric stretchers and stair carry chairs. These innovations are designed to enhance safety and efficiency in patient handling. “These ambulances come with very good technology,” Singh noted, pointing out that the automated systems significantly reduce the risk of back injuries among staff.
Through the efforts of the We Care Community Trust and the ongoing support from Hog and Hounds Sports Bar, Mandeep Singh continues to enhance emergency response capabilities in the region. His commitment highlights the positive impact local businesses can have in fostering stronger, more resilient communities.
