New Zealand Netball Team Claims Silver at World Youth Cup

New Zealand’s U21 netball team finished as silver medallists at the 2023 Netball World Youth Cup, held in Gibraltar. The team faced a strong Australian side in the final, ultimately losing 63-48. Despite a promising start, New Zealand struggled in the third quarter, where Australia outscored them 20-9, sealing their victory.

The New Zealand team entered the tournament with high expectations, having previously claimed the championship in 2013 and 2017. They began the tournament strongly, defeating the Cook Islands 74-47 and Malaysia 80-20. Their final pool match against Malawi also ended in a decisive win at 67-34. A tense semi-final against England saw New Zealand narrowly escape defeat, finishing with a score of 51-49.

Australia, on the other hand, showcased their strength throughout the tournament, comfortably winning their matches, including a semi-final victory over South Africa with a score of 67-36.
