Police officers on duty witnessed the man committing the act from a window in the station. They observed him using a knife to puncture the tyres of unmarked police cars parked in the alleyway. The presence of security cameras in the area also captured the vandalism.
The quick response by the officers led to the man’s arrest shortly after the incident. He faces multiple charges, including intentional damage with reckless disregard, unlawfully being in an enclosed area, and possession of an offensive weapon.
Following his arrest, the man is scheduled to appear in the Dunedin District Court today, where he will face the consequences of his actions. The police have not disclosed the identity of the suspect.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces, even in their own vicinity, highlighting the importance of security measures in public areas.
