SkyCity Prepares for February 2026 Opening of Convention Centre
SkyCity is set to unveil its highly anticipated New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) on February 11, 2026. The opening comes after significant setbacks, including a devastating fire in 2019 that delayed construction. With only two months remaining until the grand opening, SkyCity has already secured over 100 conferences and events at the new venue.
The General Manager of the NZICC, Prue Daly, shared insights about the centre’s prospective impact during an interview with Ryan Bridge. She indicated that approximately 30% of the events hosted annually at the facility will be international in nature. This ambitious goal highlights the centre’s potential to position New Zealand as a prime destination for global gatherings.
Daly noted that inquiries for events extend as far out as 2032, reflecting strong interest from international clients. The NZICC is designed to accommodate a wide range of events, from corporate conferences to large-scale exhibitions, making it a versatile addition to New Zealand’s event landscape.
As the opening date approaches, SkyCity’s team is focused on ensuring that the venue meets the needs of its future clients. Daly emphasized the importance of delivering exceptional service and facilities to attract international business. The NZICC is expected to significantly contribute to the local economy by drawing visitors from around the world and bolstering tourism.
The completion of the NZICC is seen as a major milestone for SkyCity and New Zealand as a whole. It is poised to enhance the country’s reputation as a leading destination for international events, setting the stage for future growth in the convention and tourism sectors.
With the final touches being made, anticipation is building for what SkyCity describes as a landmark facility. As the countdown to the opening continues, the NZICC is ready to welcome the world.
